Most players assume they’ll get their shot.
They think if they just stick around long enough, it’ll come.
That’s not how this works.
Opportunity doesn’t show up for you. It shows up for the prepared.
Here are 5 ways to compete differently…
1. Treat the game like it can be taken away
If you act like baseball is guaranteed, your urgency drops.
Competitors don’t think like that.
Your move:
Show up like you’re trying to make the team again. Every practice. Every rep. Nothing is automatic. When you feel comfortable, that’s when you lose your edge.
2. Bring energy that separates you
Energy isn’t personality. It’s consistency.
It’s how you move, how you respond, how you stay engaged.
Your move:
Sprint on and off the field. Be early to reps. Communicate. If a coach had to pick one player to set the tone, make sure it’s you.
3. Stay ready before your name is called
Most players prepare after they get the opportunity.
Competitors prepare before it.
Your move:
If you’re not in the lineup, your job is the same. Track pitches. Know situations. Take mental reps. When your moment comes, you shouldn’t need time to adjust.
4. Dominate the routine
Games are decided by simple plays done consistently.
Miss those, and nothing else matters.
Your move:
Clean transfers. Accurate throws. Smart decisions. Lock in on the routine until it’s automatic. That’s how you earn trust.
5. Appreciate it, then compete harder
Gratitude isn’t soft. It’s fuel.
If you value the opportunity, you don’t waste it.
Your move:
Stop going through reps. Be intentional. You don’t get unlimited seasons. Treat this one like it matters, because it does.
Time to Step Up!
Most players wait for things to happen.
Competitors prepare like it already is.
That’s the difference.
Apply one of these today.
